The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Anambra State Chapter led by Ichie Damian Okeke-Ogene on Saturday, 12th January, 2019 inaugurated the Ihiala Local Government Chapter of Apex Igbo Socio-cultural organization.
The inauguration ceremony which was done at St. Martin's Catholic Church field Odoata Ihiala had people from all walks of life including Ihiala leaders of thought, traditional rulers and community leaders.
Inaugurating the group, the State president of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Ichie Damian Afam Okeke Ogene (Mbuze Nanka) congratulated the newly inaugurated members of the organization and also called for peace, harmony, unity and love in the chapter.
Ogene who hailed the good and hardwork of Ohaneze Ndigbo in Ihiala chapter called on prominent individual in Ihiala to always extend the hand of fellowship to the newly inaugurated members and its executive.
He futher advocated for equal right and justice in dealing with issues among Ndi-Ihiala, emphasizing that if done, peace would reign supreme.
'Ndi-Igbo are known for loyalty, doggedness and respect,' he concluded.
Earlier the chairman Ohaneze Ndigbo Ihiala LGA chapter Ichie Nnaeto Ojimba in his welcome address disclosed that the first effort to establish this organization in Ihiala LGA was made in 2008 with late Mr. Innocent Obieke as its founded chairman but unfortunately Mr. Obieke died in 2010 and after his death, the organization appeared to have died with him.
Ojimba described Ohanaeze Ndigbo as a non partisan and non sectarian organization which he said was aimed at being the umbrella body for all Ndigbo both at home and in the diaspora.
'It promotes, develop and advance Igbo language and culture. It also honour, dignify and attracts respect.
'I congratulating all the candidates who have secured their party ticket both State and federal levels. Let them play according to the rules of the game. Let it not be a do or die affair,' he said.
For his part, the chairman of the occasion Engr. Eddy Enwegbara (Onwa) reminded Ohanaeze Ndigbo that the Igbo race had been handed over to them. He encouraged the leadership of the organization at the state level to continue in its efforts in bringing lasting peace and unity at the state and down to Ihiala local government.
Also speaking the traditional ruler of Isseke, Igwe Emmanuel Nnabeife (Ezeora) described the responsibility of Ohaneze Ndigbo as a selfless service to humanity.
Igwe Nnabeife who is the chairman of the traditional council Ihiala LGA congratulated the Ohaneze Ndigbo for the inauguration, stating that it was a step in the right direction.
On lack of funding been faced by the leadership of the organization in the state, Igwe Nnabuife advised Ohaneze to reach out to state governors of the south east and their speakers on the need to have a statutory contribution for the funding of Ohaneze Ndigbo.
He also suggested that there should be a specific amount no matter how little that must be paid by all persons from the Igbo race to support the organization.
He concluded by urging Ndi-Anambra to try and collect their PVC as the election draws nearer.
High point of the the occasion was the issuing of certificate to the newly inaugurated members, display of cultural dance by different dance groups and masquerade .
