A 48-year old man, Angus Okoye, has been found dead at the boundary between Isu Aniocha and Nawgu.
The businessman was said to have been kidnapped from his home, days back, at Ifite Isu Village, Isu Aniocha, Awka North Local Government Area.
His kidnap and eventual murder was suspected to be a result of the communal crisis rocking Isu Aniocha Community.
Okoye's corpse was found at about 9am last Sunday after a distress call was made to the police at Dunukofia Division that a middle aged man was found laying unconscious at the boundary between Isu Aniocha and Nawgu Villages.
Spokesperson of the Anambra State Police Command, SP Haruna Mohammed, said following the report, a police patrol team attached to Dunukofia Division visited the scene in conjunction with the vigilante group.
'The victim was photographed and rushed to the hospital where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor on arrival. Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was one Angus Okoye, 'm', aged, 48 years. He was allegedly kidnapped from his residence at ifite Isu Village, Isu Aniocha in Awka North LGA on the 15/12/2018 at about 11:30 pm.
'The victim was shot on the head and neck by his assailants and his Honda Pilot with REG number, Lagos FST 430 DM was abandoned,' Haruna stated.
He said the incident might not be unconnected with the recent crisis in Isu Anoacha Community in which both the warring factions were warned by the Police not to take the law into their hands.
Exhibits recovered at the scene included one expended cartridge and three empty shells of Barreta Pistol.
Meanwhile, the corpse was deposited at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital morgue for autopsy, while investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident continues.
The police assured that efforts were being intensified to apprehend those behind the act in order to bring them to Justice.
