The Catholic bishop of Awka Diocese, His Lordship Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor, has built and handed over a modern and well-furnished 3-bedroom bungalow to late Bishop S.A Okafor's Driver, Mr. Benedict Anyanwu. The building was blessed and opened by Bishop P. C Ezeokafor on Saturday, 15th December, 2018 at Mr. Ben Anyanwu's country home, Amaochasi village Amakaohia, in Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State.
Blessing the multi-million naira building Bishop Ezeokafor said he was touched by the accomodation story he heard from few Awka Diocesan priests who visited Amakaohia during the funeral of Ben's wife sometime ago, noting that he immediately rallied few individuals and sent them on fact-finding mission, adding that after going through their pathetic report, he had no option than to embark on the project.
'Mr. Ben Anyanwu served my predecessor, Late Bishop Simon Akwali Okafor meritoriously. We inherited him after Bishop Okafor's death. I told about his accommodation problem I was not really sure but after the death of his wife. I was unable to attend the burial. When those I sent as representatives came back from Imo State, they narrated a story of Ben not having a place he can call his own. I was saddened. I felt pity for him. That was how I started thinking about how to build him a house.
Bishop Ezeokafor who was accompanied to the place by Rev. Fr. Anthony Ezeokeke; the architect and the engineer who designed and built the house, Engr. Uche Anazodo and others, exhorted Christians to master the art of giving, noting that in giving they would receive.
The Catholic prelate said he embarked on the project not because he had enough but because he knew how it was for a full fledged man to be without having a place he could call his home.
Responding, the beneficiary, Mr. Ben Anyanwu expressed gratitude to God for the gift of Bishop Ezeokafor, noting that without the timely intervention of the bishop he would not had gotten a place of comfort. The visibly elated Anyanwu took his time to offer prayers for his benefactor.
'I can't thank the bishop enough for his kind disposition. We are really grateful. You can see that my Parish Priest, the traditional ruler of this community, parish Pastoral Council members, Catechist, my kinsmen and women are here to felicitate with me. The people of Amaochasi village Amakaohia community are really thankful. May God continue to bless and protect Bishop Ezeokafor for us,' Anyanwu prayed.
Fides reports that the modern bungalow was built and furnished by the bishop.
