In fulfillment of the One Youth, One Skill Initiative by Governor Willie Obiano, Fifty youths have been trained and empowered with equipment of their various skills.

The youths who were drawn from the three senatorial districts of the state were trained on cosmetology, bakery and confectionary, tiling, web designing and computer operations, among others.

Presenting the equipment to the beneficiaries, the Commissioner for Youth Empowerment and Creative Economy, Mr Bonaventure Enemali, said the intervention was in line with Governor Willie Obiano's promise to empower ten thousand youths every year in the state, noting that government had trained and empowered two hundred and fifty youths during the first phase, while another fifty youths had benefited in this phase of empowerment.

Mr Enemali noted that government focused on the areas of beneficiaries' specialization to enable them to learn it properly, use the equipment and train others.

The Commissioner disclosed that Governor Obiano was youth friendly and had anchored his 2019 budget on youth growth and empowerment, which according to Enamali, was the first in the history of the country.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs Stephanie Karie-Uzor, extolled Governor Obiano for the gesture which she said no administration had done, saying that focusing on the youths was more important, as it would take them off the streets and engage them meaningfully. She advised the beneficiaries to make proper use of the equipment and ensure their safety so as to serve them for a long time.

Some of the beneficiaries who spoke to Fides, included Chioma Okoli, Kosisochukwu Osili and Chisom Muo, appreciated the governor for channeling the minds of the youths towards usefulness and called on other youths to get registered and be focused so as to be useful to themselves and society.
