The Social Communications Department of the Catholic Diocese of Awka, Fides, last weekend added a feather to her cap, when the establishment received an award for excellent corporate service by the Rotaract Club of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, District 9142. The award was given to Fides during their 31st installation of new president and induction of new members' ceremony held at the UNIZIK auditorium in Awka.

The event which had the presence of dignitaries, awardees, past and present executive members, as well as new members, had its theme as ''Food Poverty in Nigeria: Option for the Youth''.

Presenting the Award to Fides Communications' Director, Rev. Fr. Dr. Martin Anusi, the past executive of Rotaract, Unizik Chapter, Mr. Charles Okonkwo, said the award was given for the immense contributions of Fides to the community enlightenment, educating through its medium, objective and unbiased service to the society and humanity at large.

Receiving the award for Fides Board and Management, the Director of Fides Communications, Awka, Rev. Dr. Martin Anusi, commended the Association for the recognition. He enjoined young people to take up the challenge of wheeling the affairs of the country through the right attitude to academic work and work in general.

He said that Fides has contributed immensely to human development, youth formation and skills, community information and education, and championing of professionalism and creative initiatives in media practice, journalism and communication, among others.

He stated further that Fides was committed to helping young people achieve their dreams and talents which, he noted, was evident in the large percentage of staff members being youths.

Fr. Anusi noted that the award would further spur them to do better in impacting the lives of people.

Rotaract is the Youth arm of the Rotary Club of Nigeria, an international service organization whose stated purpose is to bring together business and professional leaders in order to provide humanitarian service and to advance goodwill and peace around the world.
