Orumba South Celebrates 27th Year With Plans For Greatness

Anambra First Lady Inaugurates Water Scheme For Basden Memorial Education Centre, Isulo Orumba South local government area Anambra state After Over 30 Years .

The Orumba South Local Government Area, Anambra State, has clocked 27 years of existence, having been carved out from the Old Aguata Local Government Area, at Ekwulobia, and established at Umunze, in 1991. It is made up of 15 towns, with Umunze as Headquarters; Owelle-Ezukala, Umuchukwu, Ogbunka, Ezira, Isulo, Ihite, Eziagu, Nawfija, Akpu, Ogborji, Umuomaku, Agbudu, Oneh and Enugwu-Umuonyia. They are within the food producing area of Anambra State and form border with Abia State.

The celebration started with "Business Seminar," held at the auditorium of College of Education (Technical), Umunze, on Friday, October 26, and attended by the academia and captains of industry of the area. The keynote address was delivered by Kt. Hon. Ben Nwankwo, representing Orumba North and South Federal Constituency, Abuja, who sensitized them on the need for entrepreneurs to "Think Home," and invest maximally in the area, to generate' wealth and create employment opportunities for their people, thereby making them self reliant in infrastructural developments. He said that when industries are established, they sha11 perform their "Social welfare Responsibilities of Business,” by helping to build feeder roads for mobility of their customers, and evacuation of their goods. They shall also help in funding development of sports, for their potential talented players, as sports is also an avenue for youth empowerment, as it has become a lucrative enterprise, while some more magnimous industrialists shall organize medical outreach for the elderly and needy patients, and many other humanitarian services for the people.

On Saturday, October 27, the grand finale witnessed the display of farm products, conferment of chieftaincy titles for those who have been rendering invaluable services for the people, and also appreciating some heroes of the place, posthumously.

In his welcome address, the executive Chairman of the Council, Hon. Chief .Barrister Raymond Onyegu, said that the occasion was to evaluate their past, articulate the present and plan for the future. He reminded them of the mandate of the United Nations Organization (UNO), which directed Nations to implement their "Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), by urbanization of rural areas, with building development projects, in the rural areas, such as roads, electricity, water borehole, schools, hospitals, from the public sector, while entrepreneurs from the private sectors shall site industrial projects in the rural areas, so that indigenes can live in their villages, and achieve self actualization, in their economic and socio-political endeavours, thereby enhance the virtues of patriotism.

Chairman Onyegu expressed delight that the keynote speaker, Rt. Hon. Ben Nwankwo, did justice to the need to sensitize their people on practical patriotism, with enhancing economic values for the people, because it is economic needs, that sustains political needs.

Onyegu also commended Governor Obiano for creating enabling environment for industrial enterprises, by helping them to get electricity from the Oji River Power Base, which supplied electricity to the Old Eastern Region, and this shall help them to activate their Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), which is the backbone of Industrial Revolution of any Nation. He also expressed gratitude for the many rural roads that Governor Obiano is building in their area, among them the Ezira-Umuomaku-Ogborji-Agbudu Road, which shall help them evacuate their rich agricultural produce. He also expressed delight for the development action, with access roads, to their famous "Ogbaukwu Cave and Waterfalls," at Owerre-Ezukala, which shall create tourism industry in their area, and invariably enhance their Internally Generated Revenue (IGR). He also thanked Governor Obiano for the "Twenty Million naira Choose Your Projects” for each of their fifteen towns, which has helped them to build many projects, such as town halls, renovation of schools, health clinics, feeder roads, market stalls, etc. He expressed loyalty to the State Government, so as to enable their area become well developed.

Chairman Onyegu, paid tribute to their illustrious sons and daughters, who have been rendering invaluable services, with provision of development projects, for urbanization of their area, among them, Prof. (Dr) Godwin Maduka of Umuchukwu, whose philanthropy has made them to be a host of High Court, Magistrate Court, Police Training College and Barracks, Specialist hospital, to mention but a few. Other Eminent sons and daughter with the virtues of patriotism were Chief (Dr) Foster Ihejiofor of Ogbunka, Hon. Princess Nikky Ugochukwu of Umunze, Princess (Mrs.) Chinwe Nnabuife of Umunze, Rt. Hon. Ben Nwankwo, Hon Romanus Obi, Hon. Godson Obi, to mention but a few.

He also appreciated the patriotism of their founding fathers, among them late Igwe M.N. Ugochukwu of Umunze, late Chief Michael Chigbo Ogo of Isula, etc. He called on their young sons and daughters to contribute their quota in development of their area.

Among those who received chieftaincy title were the wife of the Governor, Chief (Mrs.) Ebelechukwu Obiano, Rt. Hon. Ben Nwankwo, Chief (Dr) Foster Ihejiofor, while those who received certificates of appreciation were Hon. Romanus Obi, and others.
