The Catholic Diocese of Awka, Agulu Central Pastoral Council, commemorated a newly ordained Priest, silver Jubilee celebrant as well as final professed Rev. Sisters on Sunday, the 15th of July, 2018.
The mass that marked the ceremony held at Madonna Assumpta Parish Agulu, was officiated by the parish priest, Rev. Fr. Dr. Joel Okechukwu.
The mass and the reception attracted a mammoth crowd of faithful from within and outside Agulu.
In a homily, Rev. Fr.I.G Onwuatuegwu, advised the newly ordained and other celebrants to remain faithful in the race, toeing the footsteps of Jesus Christ, with consciousness that the mission is to lead people on the right path.
He also advised Christians to shun materialism, which he said had led to the downfall of many, and urged them to embrace the love of Christ which was offered for all, while he told parishioners to extend hands of help to the needy as the bible said that the poor will not lack in their midst.
Urging Priests to be models for the society, the Cleric enjoined Priests to sacrifice for the salvation of humanity, unite closely with Christ, as well as their communities, shunning all worldly pleasures and acquisition while in true obedience, continue to replicate the life and glory of Christ in character and knowledge.
Concluding the Homily, Fr.Onwuatuegwu cautioned family members and parishioners against being sources of distraction to the divine call, rather, they should be encouragement to them (priests) through fervent prayers and financial support to win the race.
Speaking to Fides, the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Joel Okechukwu said he was delighted as the newly ordained priest and other jubilant have portrayed worthy priestly and sisterly characters these past years.
Fr. Okechukwu who enjoined Priests to embrace the exhortation during the homily, to maintain their identity and culture, stressed the need for them to continue to live up to expectations.
In an address of welcome presented by a representative of the Parish Pastoral Council, the Parish thanked God for His blessings upon the Agulu Catholic Community and congratulated the newly ordained, for a successful completion of the journey to priesthood, despite all challenges encountered.
