Journalists have been advised to continuously use the media platform as a veritable tool to influence road safety attitudes on the highways.
The Anambra State Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr. Sunday Ajayi, stated this, during an interactive session with the Fides Staff at Fides Communications Headquarters, in Okpuno, Awka South LGA.
The FRSC is a commission charged with the responsibility of projecting proper use, as well as raising the consciousness of road users, on the need to embrace safety rules on the highways. It is also charged with enforcement of penalties on any offender.
Mr. Ajayi said their visit was to ensure that Journalists who were also road users were educated on proper road usage as they were influencers and agents of change in any given society.
The FRSC boss, who recalled that since the establishment of the Corps in the 1980s, the organization had remained committed in the reduction of road accidents to its barest minimum, solicited the collaboration of media agencies in the state in instituting the right attitudes in the citizenry.
He listed overloading, use of phones while driving, wrong parking, worn out tyres, negligence to obeying traffic lights and non use of seat belts, as well as over speeding, as some of the common offences by road users, advising the state residents to bear in mind that family members awaited their return each day, and should drive well to stay alive.
Welcoming the FRCN team, the Fides Boss, Fr. Martin Anusi, emphasized that the media station was committed to investing and partnering ideals that would save humanity, as well as improving the living standards of the masses.
He extolled the doggedness of the command, assuring of the cooperation of the media station in reshaping the mindset of the people.
Other speakers, including the Editor-in-Chief of Fides, Mr. Jude Atupulazi and his assistant, Mrs Uche Amunike, appreciated the FRSC boss for the educative session, and pledged their continued collaboration in enhancing road safety tips.
