The newly inaugurated Speaker of the Eighth Assembly, Right Honourable Somtochukwu Udeze, has assured Ndi Anambra of quality and robust legislation.
Speaking shortly after the inauguration of the 8th Assembly, the new Speaker said they would be committed to improving security and welfare of the people through development-oriented bills and motions.
He gave the assurance in his acceptance speech after the inauguration of the Eight Assembly.
Sir Somtochukwu said the House under his watch would also serve as an effective watchdog of the less privileged ones in Anambra State, assuring that the House would restrict itself to ensuring the development of appropriate legislative templates for addressing the multifarious problems of Ndi Anambra, especially youth unemployment, environmental degradation and road infrastructure.
Right Honourable Udeze commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for being a firm and determined leader whose policies and actions, he said, had shown his determination to radically transform Anambra State into a prosperous and livable homeland, adding that the House would foster a relationship with the Executive and Judiciary based on cooperation and mutual respect for good governance.
For his part, the member representing Idemili North Constituency, Honourable Kingsley Udemezue, described the inauguration of the Eight Assembly as a new dawn for his Constituency and the state and expressed his readiness to work with the Executive Arm of the government in the area of provision of adequate security for the people, which, he said, would pave way for more investments to come into the state and guarantee economic prosperity to the people.
The Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Honourable Pauly Onyeka, observed that the Eight Assembly made the right choice in Right Honourable Udeze as he was knowledgeable enough in issues of legislature and governance and expressed confidence that the Speaker would use his wealth of experience to pilot the affairs of Anambra State.
