…As Police Repel Attack by Gunmen in Ihiala
By Jude Atupulazi
The new Commissioner of Police, Anambra State, CP Echeng Eworo, has urged the people of Anambra State and residents alike to sustain the tempo in providing the police and the security community with timely and credible crime prevention information that will be used to curb acts of crime and criminality in the state; even as he enjoined them to remain vigilant and law-abiding.
This comes as police operatives successfully repelled an attack by gunmen in Ihiala, venue of a rally by the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Tuesday.
The CP made this plea followed the recent feat accomplished by the Command, which, he said, arose from credible intelligence made possible by members of the public.
It will be recalled that on October 10, police operatives in Anambra busted a criminal hideout at Afor Nawfia, Njikoka LGA, and arrested one Daniel Nebolisa, aged 29 and recovered one double barrel locally fabricated pistol; one single barrel locally fabricated pistol; twenty-one live cartridges; five expended cartridges and one AK 47 ammunition, all concealed in a bag.
The suspect, who is already helping the police with information to apprehend other gang members, confessed that he was awaiting other members of his gang at the time of his arrest by the police.
Meanwhile, the CP has reassured the people of the state of the Command’s avowed commitment to doing everything within its powers to maintain public security and safety in the state.
