The new State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, CC Andrew Kumapayi has assumed office after the death of his predecessor, Late Sunday Ajayi

Addressing newsmen in Awka, Mr. Kumapayi promised to consolidate on the gains made by his predecessor, even as he restated the command’s commitment towards implementing strategic initiatives to further promote road safety across the state.

The new State Sector Commander, disclosed that the state recorded six percent decrease in road crashes between December 2018 and January fifteen this year.

According to Mr. Kumapayi , within the period, seventeen road crashes were recorded involving twenty -eight vehicles in which one hundred and twenty eight people were involved .

He explained that seventy five persons sustained injuries in the crashes while two people died, noting that the achievements were due to commitment and hard work of the late Commander Mr. Ajayi and the personnel of the Corps as well as effective collaboration with all stakeholders.

CC Kumapayi, a pioneer member of Federal Road Safety Corps was deployed to Anambra State on 16th of January, 2019. He has since assumed office as the Sector Commander.

He said he would consolidate on remarkable achievements already on ground by among other things increasing visibility of the Corps in all parts of the State through expanding public enlightenment programmes, enforcement of traffic rules and regulations, patrol operations, removal of obstructions, traffic control and improved data generation.

He said the Corps would also partner with Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps to maintain special night patrol to check excesses of some drivers, especially articulated vehicle drivers while regular mobile court session would also be sustained to try road traffic offenders.

He applauded the state government for commendable achievements in infrastructural development that assisted the Corps, to record all the success stories so far, assuring that the collaboration would be sustained

On the coming General Elections, he said the Corps would work with other agencies to enforce restriction of movement and ensure hitch free exercise.

Fides reports that Corps Commander Andrew Ayodele Kumapayi, a native of Ikole-Ekiti in Ekiti State was born on the 5th day of August, 1962. He commenced his academic pursuit from Omelere Nursery/Primary School, Akure, Ondo State in 1974.

Thereafter, he proceeded to Acquinas College, Akure in 1979. He attended University of Ado Ekiti and graduated with B.Sc (Hons) in Geography in 1988. He holds Post Graduate Diploma in Public Administration Staff College, Topo Badagry in 2009.

Before his deployment to Anambra State, CC Kumapayi has served in various capacities and different formations of FRSC as; Unit Commander, RS52.12, Epe Unit Command, Lagos State, 2002-2003, Unit Commander, RS3.11, Mubi Unit Command, Adamawa State, 2004-2007, Sector Head of Operations, RS10.3, Oyo State Sector Command, Ibadan, Head Personnel, FRSC National Headquarters, Abuja, 2010.

He has also served as the Sector Commander, RS9.4 Imo State Sector Command, 2012, Zonal Head of Operations, Zone RS2, Lagos, 2012-2013, Deputy Corps Provost, FRSC Headquarters, Abuja, 2013-2014, Camp Commandant, FRSC Training School, 2015, Sector Commander, RS6.1 Rivers State Sector Command, 2015-2017 and Corps Transport Standardization Officer, FRSC National Headquarters, 2017 till January 2019.
