My Opponents Should Match Me Project for Project, Not Money For Money – Ekwunife

The senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, Uche Ekwunife, has challenged her opponents in the senatorial race for Anambra Central to compare their records against hers, rather than throwing money about.

Ekwunife who threw this challenge during her recent visit to Enugwu-Ukwu in Njikoka LGA of Anambra State, said her opponents were no match to her in terms of projects and developmental impact in the senatorial district. She told the people of the community to compare her projects in the community with those of their son who is also in the race, and who has been in the national assembly, and see the difference.

She said her opponents had had opportunities to occupy public office and challenged them to bring forward their record of achievements for the people to compare and contrast.

‘I want them to match me project for project, empowerment for empowerment, and not boast of how much money they have. If after your comparison and your son attracted 1/3 of what I attracted to this community, then vote for him,’ the senator told the people of the community.

She further stated that she ranked third among the senators with the highest number of bills and motions, further challenging her opponents to show the impact of their contributions in the National Assembly.

‘When I spoke on the non-inclusion of an Igbo man on the board of the Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC), the Senate mandated the federal government to reconstitute the NCC board and an Igbo man was appointed into the board.

It is on record that I moved a motion on the erosion menace ravaging Anambra Central communities and consequently brought the Senate Committee on Works to investigate the challenge, and during this time the Nkpor flyover axis of the Enugu/Onitsha expressway which was ravaged by erosion was repaired,’ Ekwunife said.

The Chairman Senate committee on Science, Technology and Innovation further stated that one of her opponents went to the National Assembly to play to the gallery.

‘You do not move motions and go to sleep. When a senator moves a motion, his or her ability to follow up the motion and ensure that proper and befitting action is taken is the true test of the lawmaker’s capacity,’ the lawmaker concluded.

Senator Ekwunife before embarking on her tour to the community, paid a visit to the traditional ruler of Enugwu-Ukwu, HRM Igwe Ralph Ekpeh, to seek his royal blessings.
