The award which was received last Monday during the monthly meeting of the News and Editorial Department at Bishop Obiefuna Auditorium, Fidesplex, Awka, was announced by the Editor-in-Chief, Mr Jude Atupulazi.

The Editor-in-Chief, hailed the reporter for coming with news on what happened within Fides and described the report as deep and incisive.

In his words, ‘It is not only news reports we get from our neighborhood that win FiBROM Awards but this also shows that news within us; about things that affect us one way or the other, can be considered important and good enough to win awards.’

The recipient of the award, Miss Mercy Hill, thanked the Editor-in-Chief for finding her story worthy of the award, while recalling that the inspiration to write the news came at the early hours of the morning, forcing her to stay awake and ensure that she put it into writing.

In her words, ‘I did not know this story would win this award. I just wrote it because I had it in mind to just write and the fact that I was writing my Masters Project, nearly hindered me from writing it. But I thank God I was able to overcome and it was a success.’ she said.

Furthermore, Miss Hill thanked the Director, Rev. Fr Martin Anusi, for his support and encouragement and also to the Editor-in-Chief for his competence and accuracy in ensuring that the right stories were awarded. She also thanked the Fides staff members, while expressing gratitude to God for making it possible and for blessing her, even when she least expected it.
