FIDES: May we meet you?
I am Uzoamaka Okpala, from Awgbu in Orumba North L.G.A. Our business name is Beautiful Dove Global Concept. We are into fashion, liturgical items, Agriculture, and skill empowerment programme. We sew all kinds of clergy wears, like chasuble, cassock, soutane, choir, and lay readers’ hood. I started the fashion part of this business this year and I have six workers under my payroll.
FIDES: What inspired your going into fashion design?
Well, I worked for Justice Development and Peace Commission (JDPC) of the Catholic Diocese of Awka. From there, I began making clothes, especially clerical wears. Sewing these clothes, to me, draws me closer to God and his servants. Since I began, I noticed I had improved in most aspects of my life.
How has the business been in this pandemic?
COVID -19 pandemic has affected the business, because we cannot import most of the clerical materials we sell. Some of these materials can be bought in Nigeria while most cannot. So, this has really affected us. I have not been able to continue with my Agriculture projects due to lack of funding.
FIDES: Who would you say is your mentor in this field?
Rev. Fr. Simon Anigbogu; he inspires me a lot.
FIDES: Where do you see this business in the next five years?
My expectation is to see Beautiful Dove Global Concept become a brand. To make the sacramentals go far to reach different parts of the world. Both Catholics and non-Catholics can have possession and make good use of the sacramentals.
FIDES: What is your advice to youths in Anambra State?
Believe in your abilities and then put all your dreams to action and remain focused. Acquire a skill and then be consistent in it.
