A group known as Marriage Enrichment Circle on February 14, celebrated the 2022 Valentine’s Day with a call on her couple members to propagate the ideal God’s plan for marriage and family.
The celebration which was the first of its kind and which held at St Thomas Aquinas’ Catholic Church, GRA, Awka, Anambra State, attracted couples from all walks of life who were said to have celebrated true love on the Valentine Season.
Leading in a Holy Mass to mark the event, a priest in-residence at St Thomas Aquinas’ Parish, Awka, Rev Fr Prof Emmanuel Umezinwa, in his homily, enjoined all to practice love in whatever they did, thought or said. The love, according to the Catholic priest, should be agape, not filial.
Pointing out that authentic Christian love demanded that everyone extended love to all and sundry, Fr Umezinwa, who is also a Professor in the Department of Music, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, charged Christians on life of love, which, he said, did not discriminate.
‘The fact that someone is not likeable or difficult should not be an excuse for not showing him or her love. As Christians, you all should live out the new commandment of God which admonished all to love their neighbours as themselves. Whether not reciprocated or appreciated, love should be extended to everyone, the homilist advised.
Highlights of the event included renewal of marriage vows by couples, love feast, interactive session on marriage, family and parenting that was facilitated by Prof. Zita Obi, and musical rendition by one of the couples.
Marriage Enrichment Circle is an association of married couples that was founded by Barr Chizoba and Mrs Uju Nnagboh in response to the call for new evangelization.
