Making Good Health a Priority

Last week, a report had it that a man slumped and died in his car in a Lagos traffic. A woman, before then, died while going to market in a tricycle in Abuja. It was only when the driver reached her destination and waited for her to pay him that he noticed her bent over and staying still. Such deaths are becoming rampant these days and are becoming a source of bother.

Health problems, no matter how minor have a way of interfering and slowing down most aspects of our daily existence. It is therefore, important to check our health status regularly, while showing committed efforts towards improving on how to live with our day to day stress levels.

Today, so many young people suffer from blood pressure related issues unlike in the days of old when older people suffered from such. In today’s world, it is now a normal thing for young people to be hypertensive. The reasons, which may not be readily adduced, may not be unrelated to unhealthy lifestyles and stress levels.

Regular check of our health status is becoming increasingly important

Being healthy should be a priority for everyone, whether young or old. It helps prevent chronic diseases and long term illnesses. It also goes a long way to help in building self-esteem.

There are so many ways to live healthy. These include eating plenty of fruits and vegetables, cutting down levels of salt and sugar intake, drinking plenty of fluids, watching the quantity of food consumed regularly, maintaining a healthy body weight and exercising.

Smoking and excessive drinking are also very bad habits that can go a long way in shortening the life span of individuals if not checked or put under control. These days, there are many cases of people suddenly slumping and dying due to excessive body weights, heart related diseases and high blood pressure.

It is important for every adult above the age of 40 to go for regular medical checks. As they say, a stitch in time, saves nine.

There are so many benefits that come with this. Weight is a serious issue and brings with it, a myriad of health situations. It is therefore necessary to burn more calories than the body consumes. Calories are a measure of the energy in foods. Weight loss has a lot of benefits which include lowering the blood pressure and blood sugar, while raising the cholesterol level.

Health, they say, is wealth. It is time for everyone to take their health seriously in other to live as long as nature allows.
