The Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, recently paid a courtesy visit to the Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor, January 24, to sympathize with him over the fire that gutted Loretto Special Science School’s dormitory in Adazi-Nnukwu, as well as to pledge his support to the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the school, Mercy Hill reports.
It will be recalled that Loretto Special Science School’s dormitory, Adazi-Nnukwu, with a capacity of about 100 students, was razed by fire, Friday, 17th January 2020.
Governor Obiano who sympathized with the Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, over the incident at the church-managed school, described the incident as a huge loss to the school and thanked God that there was no loss of lives. This was even as he pledged his support to ensure that the building was reconstructed as soon as possible.
For his part, the Bishop, Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor, described the incident as devastating, noting that the whole dormitory was gutted by fire, with nothing recovered. He however thanked God that the lives of the students were saved because the inferno began before they returned to the dormitory after their prayers at the Chapel.
Recalling the earlier fire incident in the school in March 2018, which was triggered by power surge, Bishop Ezeokafor urged all schools in the state to ensure that they had industrial fire extinguishers to help control fire at the early stages.
He went ahead to advise that buildings be well wired with industry standard electrical equipment to prevent further occurrence.
Bishop Ezeokafor thanked the Governor for his visit and prayed that the renovation be speedily done so that the students would have where to stay.
