. . Obiano Lays Foundation Stone of Godwin Maduka Centre for Community Development

A centre for the Legal Aid Council of Nigeria has been opened to begin operation at Umuchukwu Community, Orumba South Council Area, Anambra State.
The Centre was declared opened to commence operation sequel to its commissioning by the Director General, Nigeria Legal Aid Council, Barr. Aliyu B. Abubakar, on Friday, 27th September, 2019.
The commissioning of the Legal Aid Council doubled with the foundation laying ceremony of Dr. Godwin Maduka Centre for Community Development at the Local Government Headquarters in Umunze.
Fides gathered that the Community Development Centre named after Godwin Maduka, an illustrious son of Orumba, would serve as the new Orumba South Local Government Office Complex.
Speaking at the event, Governor Obiano who was represented by the member representing Orumba South Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Emmanuel Nwafor, called on legal practitioners to assist in justice delivery through humanitarian and selfless services. He emphasized the need for prompt delivery of justice and called on the practitioners to bear in mind that justice delayed was justice denied.
He commended the Transition Committee Chairman of Orumba South, Chief Raymond Onyegu, for bringing in Legal Aid Council to the grassroots, saying that the centre would help to educate the people of the area on primary legal terms, including advice on ways to pursue their cases at no cost. He enumerated other benefits which people from the area stood to derive from the legal Aid centre and described it as a welcome development.
Hon. Nwafor noted that the Community Development centre when completed would provide enough office space for workers in the Local Government and enhance optimum performance of staff for better output. He expressed the belief that revenue would be generated from the activities of the workers in future when structure must have been put in proper and effective use.
Commissioning the Legal Aid Centre, the Director General, Legal Aid Council, Abuja, Aliyu Abubakar, said that legal aid was impartial, efficient, transparent and eager at ensuring entrenchment of the rule of law and respect for fundamental human rights. He said that the Centre would help to address legal issues being faced by people and give voice to the common man.
Earlier in his address, the Transition Committee Chairman of Orumba South, Chief Onyegu, reassured the people of more dedicated and selfless service to help foster development within the Council Area, and promised to remain royal and supportive to Governor Obiano in view of his purposeful administration.
Others who spoke at the event including the former Chairman of Local Government Service Commission, Chief Godfrey Muotolo and Special Assistant to the Governor on Project Management and Monitoring, Hon Obinna Nwankwo, commended Governor Obiano and the Transition Committee chairman for their remarkable contributions towards the peace, progress and harmonious co-existence already existing in Orumba.
The event attracted government officials, members of the Legal Aid, party members; among others, while the Nkpokiti Dance Group performed at the occasion.
