Lawmakers Laud Obiano on International Convention Centre

The Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Housing and Urban Development has said that with the construction of the International Convention Centre, Awka, Governor Willie Obiano had justified his mandate.

The committee gave the assertion when it visited the International Convention Centre as part of its oversight responsibilities.

Fides reports that the committee, which spoke through its chairman, Honourable Lawrence Ezeudu, observed that the International Convention Centre is of international standard and houses all the facilities and equipment necessary for international conventions.

The committee appreciated Governor Obiano for executing what it described as a gigantic project that had changed the landscape of Awka and would also generate more income to the state.

For his part, the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Architect Michael Okonkwo, who conducted the committee round the International Convention Centre, explained that the project was almost ninety percent completed and had a minimum sitting capacity of ten thousand persons.

Architect Okonkwo further said that Governor Obiano had written his name on the sands of time by building a place of civic pride for Ndi Anambra that could facilitate the development of other sectors.

In his remarks, a member of the committee, Honourable Emma Nwafor, noted that history would be kind to Governor Obiano for accomplishing a legacy project that would create massive employment for the youths.

Other members of the committee, including Honourable Pete Ibida and Timothy Ifedioramma, lauded the project, noting that Governor Obiano had laid a solid foundation for the incoming administration to take off successfully.
