The 6th Assembly Members have called the Executive Governor of Anambra State, Chief Dr. Willie Obiano to as a matter of urgency direct the Commissioner for Works and Road Beautification, Engr. Marcel Ifejiofo and his Environment counterpart, Arch. Mike Okonkwo to move to the gully erosion site at Chisco House Amichi-Ogbodi-Osumenyi road, in Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State and put a stop to the erosion menace.
The sponsor of the motion, Hon. Kingsley Iruba of Nnewi South I State Constituency appealed to the governor to harken to the call, noting that if nothing was done urgently the entire Eziama Village Amichi would be enveloped by erosion.
‘I sincerely urged our Governor, Chief Dr. Willie Obiano to put a definite stop to the erosion before it gets out of hand.
‘The gully erosion menace is fast developing with alarming speed at Chisco House Amichi-Ogbodi- Osumenyi Road, in Nnewi South LGA. This is the only good road linking Amichi, Ogbodi and Osumenyi towns though still under construction.
‘The  said erosion development was as a result of the poor termination of flood channel by Messers Martex Construction International Limited, the contractor doing the said road.
‘The erosion is developing very fast and it is now about 5000 feet in dept and has cleared over one hectare of land. It is more worrisome that the erosion is heading towards Eziama village, Amichi and if not checked and controlled before the coming rainy season, the entire village may be wiped out, Hon. Iruba Concluded.
Presiding over the motion, the deputy speaker and member representing the Awka South II state constituency, Hon. Barr. Hafford Ikechukeu Oseke, urged the governor to do the needful by directing the commissioner for Works and Road Beautification, Engr. Marcel Ifejior as well as commissioner for Environment, Arch. Mike Okonkwo to act fast
