The family of Omalu on Friday, March 18, 2022 committed their mother late Iyom Caroline Chinwedu Omalu to mother earth with a funeral Mass at St Francis Catholic Church Enugwu-Ukwu, Njikoka LGA, Anambra State.
Delivering his Homily, titled Life and Death and the Mercy of God, at the Funeral Mass, Rev. Fr Peter Valentine Uzozie, Parish Priest, St Francis Parish explained that human are just mortals falling short of the glory of God.
He described the Late Iyom as a mother as a mother to all. ‘Mama, was indeed a mother to all. Once I need something done, I talk to her, she always reassured me that it would be done’, He said.
He pleaded with the children to grant the last request of the Late Iyom, stating that she requested that her children remain in peace and unity. The Parish Priest also advised the family of the deceased to mortalise her.
The Parish Vicar, Rev. Fr Peter Ndianefo, on behalf of the parish, welcomed the family and friends to St Francis Catholic Church. Talking on behalf of the Family, Theodore Omalu, appreciated the Priests and Religious, Royal Fathers of Enugwu-Ukwu and Ikorodu in Lagos State, Sir Peter Obi, Former Governor, Anambra State, Dignitaries, Friends and family for celebrating their mother with them.
Fides recall that a vigil mass was also held in honour of the Late Iyom on Thursday, March 17, 2022. During the Vigil Mass, Fr Jude Oranusi, erstwhile parish priest, St Francis Catholic Church, Enugwu-Ukwu, described Mama Omalu as a gift from God. ‘Mama’s home is a home for all, a garden where people can pluck when hungry’, He said.
Talking to Fides Media, one of the grandchildren of Mama Omalu, Tobenna Nnebe-Agumadu, explained that she was a special person to everyone.
‘Grandma was a special person to all of us, she was a very caring woman. Her greatest quality was kindness. Anyone who visits her home is always welcomed home, it does not matter who you are rich or poor, she welcomes you. This is a character I have learnt from her, to welcome everyone around me.
Friends and Family present paid their condolences to the family of the deceased.
