…Blue House Wins Overall Trophy, Yellow, Orange Houses follow Suit

The Management of St. Anthony’s Catholic Comprehensive Institute, Agulu, has organized inter-house sports competition for her students, saying that such was in line with her commitment of discovering and grooming potentials in the field of sports for the students’ holistic training.

The inter-House Sports Competition held on Thursday, December 15, 2022, at the school field, saw active and healthy participation among the students allotted into various houses, namely: Red, Green, Blue, Yellow, Navy, Ash, Sky Blue and Orange houses for active competition among themselves for the trophy.

The event which coincided with the send-off of the graduating students and Christmas Party to signal the closure of the first term school activities, commenced with a concelebrated Holy Mass to appreciate God for the success of the term.

Students, during the one week intensive sporting activities, competed among themselves in Long Jump, Shot Put, Football, Volleyball, cricket, Table Tennis, Badminton, Javelin and races. The race undertaken by the students were categorized into 400m, 200m, 4x200m, 100m and 4x100m, 800m, 1500m, and 3000m, for male and female in junior and senior categories. Teachers also participated in the race to spice the event as students clapped and cheered their favourite teachers, urging them to move faster to clinch the prize for the first position.

Secondary Schools within the state were not left out as they participated in the various invitation races designed for them.

At the end of the various sports competitions, Blue House emerged overall winners of the inter-house sports competition with 10 gold medals, 7 silver and 9 bronze, while the second position went to Yellow House with 8 gold medals, 1 silver and 9 bronze, while Orange House came third with 6 gold medals, 8 silver and 4 bronze in the highly contested competition.

The trophy for March-past Competition was lifted by Orange House with 79 points, while Red and Navy Blue Houses came second and third with 77 and 76, points respectively.

Speaking to Fides, the School Manager, Rev. Fr. Valentine Ezenduka, described sports as one of the extra-curricular activities embedded in the school programme to enhance students’ emotional, physical and health wellbeing. He noted that the school sports formed a good foundation for some talented students to develop a career in the area of sports.

The school inter-house sports, according to the manager, was designed to be an avenue for discovering and developing various sports skills in students. He pointed out that the discovery would facilitate the training of the students to be physically fit and healthy.

Also speaking, the chairman of the occasion, Chief Boniface Ukoh, commended the students for what he described as their marvelous participation in the different sporting events. He maintained that sports and academic development of students went hand in hand and none should be allowed to suffer so as to achieve the ultimate goal of education.

Some of the graduating students who spoke to Fides, Obinna Emmaunel Obinna and Ifeanya Uzoezie, commended the quality and effective education which they received in the school and noted that the teachers sacrificed a lot to make them better.
