Injustice in Nigeria: We Must Keep Speaking the Truth

The Catholic Bishop of Pankshin Diocese, Most Rev. Michael Gokum, on Saturday, August 21, 2021, stated the Church leaders in Nigeria must keep speaking the truth despite many biases.

He stated this in his homily during morning Mass in Enugu at the ongoing Catholic Bishops’ conference. “In Nigeria today, there are so many biases in the land but whether our voices are heard or not, we must continue to speak out for our people and be voice of the voiceless in the midst of the injustice that is going on in the land. After all, we shall lose nothing for telling the truth no matter the challenges we face.”

According to Bishop Gokum, religion should not be a problem for the people. “Once you are obeying the rules and regulations in the society, our hearts will be pure before God, as well as love our brothers and sisters. Religion therefore should be about bringing goodness in us and sharing with others in our daily living.”

He also advised that people should look up to Jesus as a true model of humility. “Never be proud of whatever gift you may have. After all they are all gifts from God. Look up to Jesus as the only model in life, stay close to Jesus. It is only by this can people recognize Jesus in you.”
