The Anambra State traditional rulers have expressed worry over what they term the illegal arrests and brutality of security agents, urging the law enforcement personnel to embrace professionalism, as well as putting a stop to any act portraying them in bad light.

Some of the traditional rulers made their feelings known while reacting to the newly commissioned Zone 13 of Nigeria Police Force temporary headquarters, in Ukpo, Dunukofia Local Government Area of Anambra State

In their separate submissions, the traditional rulers, Igwe Chijioke Nwankwo of Nawfia; Igwe Ben Izuchukwu Emeka of Umueri; as well as Igwe Peter Uyanwa of Ukwulu; charged police officers to bring their wealth of experience to bear in the new police outfit.

The Royal Fathers expressed happiness that the people of the area would no longer go through the burden of transporting themselves to Umuahia for their cases.

While appreciating Governor Willie Obiano’s giant strides in the area of security, the traditional rulers urged police officers posted to the Zone to ensure that effective policing was brought closer to the people.

Also speaking, the traditional rulers of Enugwu Ukwu, Igwe Ralph Ekpe, that of Umuawulu, Igwe Joel Maduadichie Egwuonu and their Owelle Ancient Kingdom counterpart, Igwe Anthony Onyekwere, enjoined the police to shun what they called heartlessness, brutality, unwarranted arrest or excessive and illegal use of force against civilians.

The Royal Fathers further harped on the need for police to shun intimidation or verbal abuse and false allegations among other acts of victimization and enjoined the citizens to see the police as friends of the civilians, and the civilians; friends of the police.

They called on President Muhammadu Buhari to site more infrastructural facilities that would uplift the living standard of the people of the zone, while commending Prince Arthur Eze for facilitating the project.
