The Nimo Community in Njikoka Local, Government Area has set machinery in motion to accord a hero’s burial to her late President General, Sir Frank Anthony Igboka, on June 14 this year. Igboka was murdered by gun men in front of the town’s market last April 16, a development that sparked a state-wide outrage.
Consequently the Anambra State Government had tasked security agencies in the state to immediately arrest the culprits, and announced a five million reward to anyone that could provide information to their arrest. Barely two weeks later, one of the lynch pins in that murder was arrested, followed a week later by the arrest of another principal suspect. The state government also redeemed its pledge by releasing five million Naira to those behind the first arrest.
And while the hunt for the remaining suspects intensifies, the Nimo Community is planning a hero’s burial for their late PG. Speaking exclusively to Fides, the Acting President General of Nimo Town Development Union, NTDU, Dr Alexander Agbaenyi, who described Igboka’s killing as unprecedented in the history community, said plans were afoot to accord a befitting burial to the fallen PG.
‘We look forward to burying him on 14th June, 2019. Nimo will bury him like a hero,’ Agbaenyi told Fides, disclosing that various committees had been put in place to achieve that, just as he also prayed for the speedy arrest of the remaining culprits.
‘We solicit for prayers from all concerned Individuals and groups for a successful investigation and trial. We pray for the repentance of people involved in evil doing. We ask for God’s protection and express our appreciation and great thanks to the Anambra State Government, agencies and individuals who have assisted in the investigation,’ Agbaenyi said, while enjoining the rest of Nimo Community to cooperate with the town union in its task of keeping the wheel of progress turning.
