The Vice Presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in the 2019 election, Mr. Peter Obi, has denied reacting to a purported invitation to him by the country’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, as being circulated on different media platforms.
A press statement issued by his media office signed by Mr Valentine Obienyem claimed that the said reaction quoted Obi as requesting the EFCC to make their investigations public, over what it described as other out-of-character remarks.
The release further said that Obi was yet to receive any letter from the EFCC, and that he read on social media like others.
‘From what is circulating, the letter appears to have been sent to an office he is no longer part of and is yet to reach him. However,’ the release further read, ‘Obi, being a law abiding Nigerian, will honour all legitimate invitations from government agencies at all times.’
Obi was recently mentioned in a Premium Times report based on Pandora Leaks over non-declaration of assets which Obi was said to have denied any wrong doing.
Some Nigerians have also seen the report as politically motivated by likely opponents because of Obi’s believed presidential ambition.
