Hon. (Dr.) Ifeanyichukwu Ibezi, the former Lawmaker, who once represented Idemili North and South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has come to the aid of Mrs. Christiana Albert Okoye of Uru-Ogidi, in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, who was recently physically assaulted.
Mrs. Okoye suffered severe bodily harm occasioned by the beating she received from one Master Sunday Kosisochukwu
Mmaduegbuna of Uru-Ogidi, who is said to be her relation.
The cause of the fight was trading of accusations between Mrs. Okoye and Maduegbuna.
Owing to the life-threatening injuries she got from the beating inflicted on her by the teenager, Mrs. Okoye was subsequently hospitalized.
The story of her plight reached Hon. Ibezi, who visited her at the hospital to ascertain her condition.
After sympathizing with Mrs. Okoye, Hon. Ibezi promised to foot the bills of the her treatment.
Hon. Ibezi also promised to ensure that her assailant, Master Maduegbuna was brought to book and the cause of justice served.
The former Lawmaker described violence against women as heinous crime which should be frowned at by well meaning members of the society.
It would be recalled that some angry youths at Ogidi Community have disciplined one Master Sunday Maduegbunam for giving Mrs. Okoye what they termed a harsh treatment.
Eye witness said Master Maduegbuna descended heavily on Mrs. Okoye flogging her with cane, kicking and giving heavy blows on her.
The witness said Master Maduegbuna was seen using a long and heavy stick to beat the elderly woman.
He said that at a point, Master Maduegbunam dropped the stick and resorted to slapping, boxing, kicking and stamping on the fallen woman and further said the young man even attempted to strangle her to the consternation of onlookers, mostly women and children.
