Sunday March 23, 2019, saw the entire Igbo-Ukwu environs charged up with the first ever cultural carnival of the town’s Catholic-owned Holy Family Secondary School. The school also used the grand occasion to raise fund for erecting male and female hostels.

In his homily during the Holy Mass that kick started the event, Rev. Fr Nwanna Joseph said that the day’s readings touched so many aspects of lives of students and teachers as well. “It is only when you believe in yourself that you can believe someone else. The exams which you teachers set up for your students are to be according to what you taught ,and not when you teach about Mr A, you then set Exams about Mr B. If you are indeed a teacher, you ought to nurture the talents of your students. You are also expected to treat them equally and not the other way round’ Fr Nwanna said.

He continued. “To the students, it’s high time you knew that your teachers are your leaders and it will be very bad of you that after your education you will be nothing than empty vessels. How will you feel if you are a parent and your child has nothing in his/her skull after paying all the school fees required for him to be somebody in life? I have noticed that the children of nowadays think so much about this country called Malaysia which they think that whenever they reach there, they will start plucking money from trees. Please, my dear students, it is not how it is oo.It might work for Mr A and it will not work for Mr B. So my dear students, try always to work on your own and become what you are expected of”.

Fr Nwanna also had some words of admonition for parents and guardians. “My dear parents, please try always to co-operate with the teachers, it is very important. Note that if you are a good parent, the teacher of your child will always cherish you and he/she will always ask your child how you are doing. Always pray for the teachers”.

At the end, he asked the Almighty God to continue blessing the teachers and the pupils of the school especially the manager and his assistant.

In his address, the manager of the school Rev Fr Valentine Chinonso Ezenduka appreciated all who have been part of the school’s success story, especially the priests who joined in the Holy Mass and HRH Igwe Col.C.O.A.
