By Silver Ndukire

Fifty-four kids from St Gabriel’s Parish, Okpuno on Sunday, 30th September 2018 joined their counterparts all over the world in the wonderful Holy Childhood Association to PRAY, CARE and SHARE generously.

The inauguration ceremony started with a Holy Mass presided over by the parish vicar, Rev Fr Fidelis Izuakor. He described the organization as a means through which children help other children in other parts of the world especially the poor. He encouraged parents to support their kids by teaching them the virtue of charity, advising the children to cultivate the habit of saving from the little money given to them to buy sweets and biscuits.

During the inauguration proper, the children pledged to always look out for and help their peers, especially the less privileged. Furthermore, they were each handed the HCA identity card and a Mission Bank with which to save their little contributions. On hand to receive their pledges was the Awka Deanery I HCA Chaplain and Vicar in the parish, Rev Fr Fidelis Izuakor. Also present at the occasion was the Awka Diocesan HCA Coordinator, Rev Sr Makuo Okafor IHM.

For sustenance Mr Anthony Chukwura and Mrs Jane Okoli were appointed patron and patroness to guide and support the children.

During the reception the children trilled the audience with spectacular performances including welcome song, calisthenics display, amazing fashion parade, fill-in-the-bottle contest, cultural dance and many more.

In a vote of thanks, the Parish Animator, Bro Cletus Mgbechi thanked everyone that graced the occasion, promising to do his best by God’s grace, to lead the kids working together with the Co-Animator, Dr Mrs Helen Okoye.

In one emotional moment, the children prayed for their fallen heroes – all the children who have died in the whole world.
