Avocado pear, popularly known as Butter fruit, has been described as a powerhouse of health benefits.
Speaking to Fides in an exclusive interview, a health expert, dietician and food plan drafter, Miss Nsikak Effiong, said avocado pear when included in people’s diet provided a wide range of health benefits. She wondered why people were searching for health inducing fruits when it was right within their reach.
‘Avocado pear is very good for the health. Research has proven that the vitamins, minerals and other nutrients in avocado pear can outrightly provide important health benefits. For instance, half an avocado provides approximately 18% of the daily value of Vitamin K. This nutrient is often overlooked but is essential for bone health. These vitamins also help to avoid certain forms of anemia which prevent tiredness and fatigue,’ she explained.
Effiong, while recounting her personal experience, commended the effective work which the intake of avocado had done in her system and that of her clients, especially how it improved her heart health since she found its health benefits a year ago.
‘Avocado pear when included in our diet regularly prevents cardiovascular disease. Avocado pear is an excellent source of fibre. Fibre is deeply connected to maintaining lower blood pressure and a regular pulse. Furthermore, avocado pear has been linked to lower cholesterol levels, especially in people who have high cholesterol,’ she disclosed.
Effiong however regretted that the attitude of people towards health information was relatively low as most people did not attach importance and the needed seriousness to matters concerning their health until they were hooked and became critically ill.
She maintained that the management of health situations in such critical moments could be very demanding and emphasized the need for people to adopt the cliché that prevention was better than cure in their daily activities.
Explaining the usefulness of avocado pear in weight loss, the dietician said that avocado pear had contributed largely in achieving weight loss.
‘This fruit intake helps with obesity and high blood pressure and it is solely achieved through combining avocado pear with our diet and it helps to get rid of obesity while keeping muscle mass in place,’ she concluded.
