The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, says it will soon begin to clamp down on tricycle operators, popularly known as Keke, who flaunt or disobey traffic regulations in the state.
The Sector Commander of the Agency in Anambra, Mr. Sunday Ajayi, disclosed this while speaking to Tricycle operators in the State Capital, Awka, during a sensitization campaign.
The Federal Road Safety Corps alongside other security agencies in the state, including the Police, the Directorate of State Services, the Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra, who took their message to the Keke operators as part of measures to reduce road mishaps, enlightened them on the dangers of drug abuse, cultism, and other forms of crime and criminality, as well as ensuring the security of life of the riders and their commuters in the city.
Mr. Ajayi urged the group to obey traffic laws in the state so as to avoid exposing themselves and their commuters to danger while urging their leaders to ensure that their members were properly registered.
For his part, the Divisional Police Officer, “B Division”, Mr. Odion Ekeinde, said the police had stepped up its drive to end crime and harped on the need for Keke operators to desist from all forms of crime and criminality.
Speaking to the press shortly after the sensitization programme, the chairman of KKAWAPPU Amalgamated Tricycle Union of Anambra State, Awka Chapter, Prince Chinedu Ozojiofor, assured that under his leadership the members of the union would become better members of society, be law abiding citizens and provide better services to commuters, especially with the ban on commercial motorcycle operation in the state capital.
