The Handmaids Infant Jesus Nursery and Basic School, Awka, has honoured the former Bursar of Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe (NOCEN), Chief Mike Ekwunife (Ikenga Amansea),  alongside Igwe Gibson Nwosu (Eze-Uzu) of Awka Kingdom, Anambra State Commissioner for Basic Education, Prof Kate Omenugha, Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Prof. Joseph Ahaneku, Chief (Mrs.) Toochi Onalike (Adadioramma), Nee Onwumelu with school promoters awards.

Others who were recognized included Prof. Au Nonyelu, Prof. Oby Okonkwor, among others. The awards presentation which took place at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cathedral, Awka during the 16th Inter-House Sports Competition & Award Ceremony of Handmaids Infant Jesus Nursery/Basic School, Awka had people from all walks of in attendance.

The awardees were honoured for their immense support, special love and commitment to the school which was founded in the year 1985.

Flagging off the event, the proprietor of the school and the Catholic bishop of Awka Diocese, His Lordship Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor extolled the administrative staff of the school led by Rev. Sr. Rose Udoka Ukachukwu, HHCJ, for the quality of their teaching staff as well as the standard of education in the school.

The education friendly bishop while commending the school’s administrative staff for the job done so far urged them to maintain the tempo.

Earlier in a remark the chairman of the occasion and an awardee, Chief Mike Ekwunife lauded the school’s administrative staff for what he described as a giant stride recorded in the school. He also appreciated the School Chaplain, Rev. Fr. Polycarp Chimaobi Okoye for the spiritual guidance and direction he was providing for the school.

He said all his children passed through the school, even as he said that his last baby was still in the school.

He thanked them for the honour done him and others, noting that it would spur them on to do more work for the school.

In an interview, one of the awardees and the Mother of the Day, Chief (Mrs.) Toochi Onalike (Nee Onwumelu) enjoined parents to patronize the school by rendering financial and material support to the school, noting that he was more than satisfied with the quality of teaching and learning in the school.

Award presentation, speeches, inter-house sports formed the highpoints of the occasion.

The chairman of the occasion Chief Mike Ekwunife (Awardee) joined the headmistres of the school, Rev. Sr. Rose Udoka Ukachukwu to present an award to the Mother of the Day, Chief (Mrs.) Toochi Onalike (Nee Onwumelu) shortly after receiving his own award.
