Give Me Ticket and I’ll Win for You, Okonkwo Tells Anambra PDP

A frontline governorship aspirant on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, High Chief Obiora Okonkwo, says he will deliver the elusive governorship seat to his party if he emerges its standard bearer for the November 6 election in Anambra State, reports Jude Atupulazi.

Speaking to the PDP members at the party secretariat in Awka last Monday during his official declaration for the guber contest, Okonkwo who recalled his past contributions to the party, said the party needed to be careful with its choice to avoid regrets thereafter.

Okonkwo, Chairman of United Nigeria Airlines which was recently launched, urged the party to give its ticket to someone who had capacity to win the election and end the almost 15 years the party had been in the political wilderness in the state.

Proclaiming that he was not contesting on the back of any godfather, the business mogul however said he was contesting because he had father God and promised to make PDP win the election if elected as the standard bearer of the party.

‘We are waiting for who other parties will present, because we know that whoever they present, we will defeat them roundly. I’m not telling you we will win, but how we will win the election. We are very qualified to run on the ticket of PDP.

‘You need a man who has the capacity to win, and a man who has been a thorough party man. I have been a PDP member for many years and since I joined the party, I have never deviated,’ Okonkwo said.

While admitting that there were a lot of qualified people seeking the ticket of the PDP, Okonkwo said what the party needed in the coming election was not a good or better candidate, but the best of the best.

‘That is why I am offering myself. I’m very qualified; I am very ready and confident of winning the election for PDP, and that is what the PDP needs now,’ he said.

Earlier, while introducing the aspirant, a member of his campaign team, Mr. Azubuike Iloh, former chairman of Awka South Council, said PDP needed a man who was highly acceptable, and who also had the capacity to finance his own election instead of relying on the party.

While responding, the state Chairman of PDP, Mr. Ndubuisi Nwobu, commended Okonkwo for his numerous contributions to ensure the smooth running of the party in the state.
