Two Persons have undergone free surgeries as the immediate past Health Commissioner, Dr Joe Akabuike, commenced a free medical mission at Nanka, Orumba North Council area.
The two successful operations were Herniorrhaphy, known as hernia, carried out on a five year old boy, and Myomectomy, known as fibroid, on a forty-one years old woman.
Correspondent Valentine Mbadugha who was at the event reports that the former Commissioner, Dr.Akabuike said he used the annual free medical mission being organized by Pharmacist Chinyere Onah, to introduce his own free surgical mission. Dr Akabuike who is an indigene of Nanka, said the aim was to give indigent people among them access to quality health care and also to encourage the sponsor of the free medical mission Ndi Nanka have been enjoying for five years now.
Earlier while addressing the beneficiaries , the new Commissioner for Health, Dr Vincent Okpala, who lauded the initiative urged them to key into the Anambra State Health Insurance Scheme to benefit from the low cost quality health care being provided by the Obiano led administration.
On her part, the benefactor of the free medical mission, which is the fifth in its series, Pharmacist Chinyere Onah, said her motive of giving back to the society through health care is because good health is the bedrock of every successful individual and society.
She called on government to accelerate the pace of equipping Nanka General Hospital.
Some of the beneficiaries, including Mr Israel Madubuko and Mrs Ngozika Obiora appreciated the sponsors and prayed for God’s blessings upon their lives.
This year’s event which took place at Ofuobi General Hospital Nanka, has over five hundred beneficiaries diagnosed and given drugs for different health challenges including eye problem, malaria, typhoid, arthritis, diabetes, hepatitis, among others.
Others who attended the event were the Transition Committees chairman, Orumba North Local Government area Barrister Obinna Ikwueto, among other community stakeholders.
