The immediate past elected councilors in Anambra State, have endorsed the senatorial aspiration of the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, for Anambra Central, Senator Uche Ekwunife.

The former councilors of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) from Anambra Central, who announced the endorsement last Tuesday at a meeting with Ekwunife in Awka, described her as having the requisite qualities to represent the people of the zone.

While welcoming the senator, spokesman of the councilors, Hon Ebele Anoliefo, who regretted what he termed their raw deal as councilors, described Senator Uche Ekwunife as a quintessential politician whose legislative experience and capacity were needed to place Anambra Central Senatorial Zone at the top.

He pledged the councilors’ readiness and resolve to work for the victory of Ekwunife and urged all hands to be on deck.

Anoliefo lauded Ekwunife for her achievements during her years in the Federal House, noting that she was easily the best House of Reps member in recent memory. He said their support for her had nothing to do with party affiliation but about recognition of quality and capability.

He assured her that the councilors would use their formidable grassroots machinery to deliver her on Election Day.

For his part, Hon Kelue Dike from Amikwo Awka, pledged the total support of the councilors for Ekwunife.

In her response, Ekwunife thanked the former councilors for their support, noting that the struggle to get to the senate was not personal, but a collective one.

She said she had the capacity to deliver, given her track record and noted that though it was always a difficult thing to contest election in a difficult zone like Anambra Central, she was hopeful of succeeding because of the support and personal sacrifices of many people to her campaign effort.

She promised to provide platforms for the councilors that would help them access the many opportunities in the national assembly.

Earlier while welcoming her, the leader of the ex-councilors, Hon Benson Okoye, described Ekwunife as one whose qualities were widely acknowledged and assured her of the unflinching support of the former councilors.
