It was a new season filled with love and gratitude as Fides reporters; Ifeoma Ezenyilimba and Ikeugonna Eleke, received awards for the best reporters for the month of November and December respectively.
The event which took place at Newsroom 2, Fidesplex, Okpuno on Monday, January 13, 2020, was the first meeting of the Editorial and News Department of Fides Media Ltd. of the year, 2020.
In his remarks, the Editor-in-Chief Fides Newspaper, Mr. Jude Atupulazi, said the best reporter of the month award was an initiative of Fides Management to encourage hard work and promote excellence amongst reporters.
Mr. Atupulazi congratulated the recipients, while encouraging all reporters to strive towards professionalism and holding firm the ethics of journalism. According to him, the award was designed to encourage reporters to go the extra mile. He also added that the Director and the entire Management Team wished that every month would have a new winner.
For his part, the Director of Fides, Rev. Fr. Martin Anusi, while addressing the news crew, assured that the Management would not relent in rewarding outstanding reporters.
He further appreciated what he described as the brilliant idea of Miss Uche Enem, a reporter with Fides, on physically-challenged persons which drew the attention of the Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese.
He said the idea was currently in view as the Bishop has addressed all parishes earlier this year to consider the physically challenged in society while erecting structures.
Fr. Anusi further expressed his delight with Mr Atupulazi for being fair in his choice of winners for the Best Reporter of the Month Award. He encouraged all reporters to be steadfast with their duties as this could determine one’s possibilities to be declared winner for any month.
Speaking to Fides Crew shortly after the meeting, the winner of the maiden edition, Miss Ifeoma Ezenyilimba, dedicated her award to God and all her fans, who, she said, found time to read her stories.
‘When it was announced, truth be told, I did not see the award coming, but when I was declared the winner of the maiden edition, I was so shocked, I was not expecting it. I was told my story on examination malpractice qualified me for the award,’ she said.
She said it was her second professional award, recalling that 31st August 2019, she was honoured with an award by the Rotaract Club, Amawbia. She promised not to relent on her effort, noting that to whom much was given, much would be expected.
In appreciation, Miss Ezenyilimba, on behalf of other recipients, thanked the Fides Director and the entire management, especially the Editor-in-Chief, Mr Atupulazi. She prayed God to continue to strengthen them.
