The Director of Social Communications, Catholic Diocese of Awka and the Director of Fides Media, Rev. Fr. Dr. Martin Anusi, last Sunday, 30 May 2021, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, Government House, Awka, joined the rest of the world to remember and honour all those who lost their lives during the Nigerian/Biafra Civil War that was estimated to have claimed over 5 million lives.

Rev. Fr. Anusi blessing Little Miss Miriam Adaife Okechukwu-Eze and family at the baby’s baptism at St Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, Awka, May 30, 2021.

Remembering the war victims during the infant baptism ceremony of little Miss Miriam Adaife Okechukwu-Eze, the daughter of Mr/Mrs O’star and Imelda Eze, Fr. Anusi reiterate that remembering the dead is at the core of Catholic theology and spirituality.

The Fides Director further advised that we need to eschew violence and destruction of life and properties as these might negate the values that go with those who lost their lives in the defence of our cherished freedom.

He expressed gratitude to God for the gift of Miriam and her parents, stating that she was baptized the day the Mother Church was celebrating the feast of the Holy Trinity.

He enjoined all to pray for peace and shun acts capable of inciting people against one another, noting that the Government of Anambra State had done noble by remembering and honouring Biafra’s fallen heroes and heroines. He said such remembrance would appease lots of souls and also serve as a soothing relief to aching hearts.

Baptizing Baby Miriam, Rev. Fr. Francis Oranye prayed God to protect and prosper the baby, as well as her family. He exhorted the parents and her God-parents to train the child in the ways of God.
