Fides Kitchen – Red Velvet Cake

Still on my birth month cake recipe, this week I will be teaching you how to bake Red Velvet Cake.

Red Velvet Cake is also in the chocolate cake family but this time you add red colour to it. It is mainly used as desert.


Butter – 500grams
Sugar – 250grams
Cocoa powder – ½ tsp
Eggs – 2 large eggs
Flour – 500grms
Baking soda – 1 teaspoon
Baking powder – ½ tablespoon
Butter milk – 1 cup
Red food colour – 1 tablespoon

1. Make sure that all the utensils and appliances you will use for the cake are clean and dry.
2. Check, check and check that you have all the ingredients you will need to bake the cake.
3. Make sure fides kitchen paper for the chocolate cake recipe is close by.
4. Everything ready? Let’s go!


In a bowl, cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Combine flour, cocoa powder and baking soda and salt; add to creamed mixture alternatively with butter milk, beating until smooth after each addition.

Add your food colour to your creamed mixture, cut and fold to combine

Pour batter into a greased and floured pan, bake at 350°C until cake 30-45min or until cake tests done.
