The people of Eziowelle, in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, have embarked on a peaceful demonstration to prevail on the state government to withdraw the official recognition given to the President-General of Eziowelle Community, Mr. Titus Akpudo, for peace to reign.
Addressing the protesters at the Government House, Awka, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Chieftaincy and Town Union Matters, Hon. Barrister Mrs. Vera Okonkwo, reiterated the state government’s appeal to communities with disagreements to follow the path of law, order and peace in presenting their view point.
While addressing the protesters on behalf of the state government, Hon. Barr. Okonkwo promised to channel their agitations to the Governor for prompt action and advised the community to remain peaceful in their conduct to avoid a breakdown of law and order.
The Eziowelle Community alleged high-handedness and financial impropriety against the President-General through the inscriptions on the placards they carried.
The protesters led by Chief Anthony Chigbo, said the town union leader had lost support and followership, and accused him of using his personal bank account to run the affairs of the Town Union without giving account of his stewardship for the three years he was in office as the President-General of Eziowolle.
They also alleged that the state government was erroneously briefed on the community’s Town Union election in June 2018, and urged Governor Willie Obiano to constitute a Caretaker Committee, which would set up a template for the smooth conduct of re-run election for the post of the President-General.
Mr. Chigbo assured the state government of the continued support of the community in moving the state forward.
