Ezewuzie Commends ASHIA For Providing Mobile Ramps For Persons With Disabilities

The Special Adviser to Governor Willie Obiano on Disability Matters, Barrister Chuks Ezewuzie, has commended the Anambra State Health Insurance Agency, ASHIA for providing mobile ramps for persons  with disabilities.

Barrister Ezewuzie, who disclosed this while speaking to newsmen in Awka, thanked the Executive Secretary of the Anambra State Health Insurance Agency, Dr. Simeon Onyemaechi for making ASHIA the first agency in Anambra State that provided ramps for persons living with disabilities, as enshrined in the Disability Law Act, signed into law by Governor Willie Obiano in 2018.

The legal luminary explained that Anambra State government is the first to implement the Disability Right Law in the South East, and commended Governor Willie Obiano for his responsiveness in alleviating the burdens of the persons living with disabilities, through his numerous disability-friendly policies and programmes, describing him as the most disability-friendly Governor in Nigeria.

Responding, Dr. Onyemaechi said the ramps were in fulfillment of  the promise he made sometime this year during the advocacy visit of the Joint National Association of Persons Living with Disabilities, Anambra state chapter to his office on the need to implement the Anambra State Disability Right Law, which says that there must be ramp in every building.

The ASHIA boss revealed that one thousand six hundred and fifty persons living with disabilities have been captured in the National Basic Healthcare Provision Fund in Anambra State.

In his remark, the Chairman of Joint National Association of Persons Living With Disabilities, Anambra State chapter, Comrade Ugochukwu Okeke appreciated Dr. Onyemachi for being the first to kick off the implementation of the Disability Right Law in Anambra State through the provision of the ramps to ease movement of persons living with disabilities.

The Special Assistant to Governor Obiano on Sign Language Communication, Mr. Joseph Collins was also present during the visit.
