Ezeokafor to Youths: Take up Responsibility, Live out your Potentials

By Ifeoma Ezenyilimba

An Aguata-born former President of Catholic Laity Council of Nigeria, Awka Diocese (CLCNAD), Comrade Emma Ezeokafor, has called on youths at all levels to take up responsibilities in their various stages of life so as to live out their potentials as leaders of today and tomorrow.

Comrade Ezeokafor, who gave the call while addressing the youths of Catholic Youth Organisation of Nigeria (C.Y.O.N.) of Old Awka Diocese during the last General Council  Meeting of the youth organisation at St John’s Parish, Umuokpu-Awka, Anambra State, on July 11, noted that it was high time the youths proved their mantle as leaders.

He observed that there was no way someone could prove their ability while hiding under a cloak, and therefore charged the youths to come out, and take up responsibilities in the

Church and society so as to prove that they could be entrusted with higher responsibilities.

He cited the examples of some former leaders of lay groups of the Church, who, he said, also served and did well in their various government appointments in the state. The former president noted that such people were entrusted with higher responsibilities because they came out, served and proved themselves worthy of higher responsibilities.

Ezeokafor, who was the 9th president of C.Y.O.N., Awka Diocese, stressed the need for platforms that would help the youths to develop their potentials and talents to be given prominence in society. He observed that it was in a bid to assist the youths showcase and develop their talents that his administration, among other things, set up a theatre group for C.Y.O.N., Awka Diocese.

He commended the Izuchukwu Ezenwankwo led-administration of C.Y.O.N., Awka Diocese for what it described as its worthwhile effort to galvanize the C.Y.O.N. into a model Catholic youth body.

The former President of C.L.C.N.A.D., Comrade Emma Ezeokafor (standing), addresses the Catholic youths of Old Awka Diocese, St John’s Parish, Umuokpu-Awka, July 11, 2020.

According to him, it was a thing of joy that C.Y.O.N. of Old Awka Diocese ended with Mr Ezenwankwo as the 12th president at the last General Council Meeting of July 11, 2020, noting that it would engender the continued growth of the diocese

and the new Catholic Diocese of Ekwulobia (CADEK), that was created from the old Catholic Diocese of Awka.

The erstwhile youth and laity council president of various periods, assured the C.Y.O.N. of Awka and Ekwulobia dioceses of his continuous support for their needed growth.
