Ex-Anambra SSG Emerges Umuoji Town Union PG …As Abuchi Onwumelu of Fides Gets Assistant Secretary’s Slot

The Umuoji Improvement Union Nigeria (UIUN), Awka Branch, has elected the former Anambra Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Hon. Okey Nwabachili, as its President. Hon. Nwabachili alongside other elected officials will pilot the affairs of the Town Union for the next two years.

The keenly contested election held at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, Amawbia, saw Comrade Abuchi Onwumelu of Fides Newspaper emerge as the Assistant Secretary of the body.

Hon. Nwabachili polled the highest number of votes cast to defeat Mr. Udoka Chukelu and Mr. Gabriel Udegbunam, respectively. Other elected executive included Mr. Celestine Nkulume (Secretary); Mr. Julius Akubue (Treasurer); Mr. John Ukor (Fin Sec.); Hon. Ifeanyichukwu Ndubuisi (Publicity Secretary); Mr. Vincent Onwuka (Director of Socials); Mr. John Mbagha; Mr. Sunday Aboh and Rev. Augustine Okoji (Auditors).

Before the election, the aspirants were cleared by the electoral committee led by Engr. Anthony Chigbo.

In his acceptance speech, the newly elected President, Hon. Okey Nwabachili, expressed gratitude to God for the opportunity given to the community to organize what he described as free, fair and credible election. He thanked the people of Umuoji for the confidence reposed in them, even as he assured that they would not let them down.
Nwabachili promised to operate an all inclusive government.

Speaking shortly after the election the out gone President, Dr. Nnamdi Nwakozor, advised the newly elected executive members to be selfless and focused. He urged them to shun acts capable of bringing the community to disrepute.
