A European Union (EU) sponsored water project meant to supply water to four communities in Anambra State, has collapsed in Aguleri, Anambra East Local Government Area.
The project which was sited in Aguleri, where Governor Willie Obiano hails from, reportedly collapsed on Monday afternoon.
An eye witness said there were no casualties, despite the high overhead tank being situated in a residential area.
Anambra State governor, Chief Willie Obiano, has however protested, saying that such could only have happened because his government was not involved in the construction.
The state Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr C Don Adinuba, who confirmed this to Fides, stated also that there were no casualties.
He however insisted that it was wrong for projects to be sited in the state without consulting the state government for advice.
‘The collapse of the water tank underscores the need for greater state government’s involvement in the execution of projects by development partners like the European Union.
‘Perhaps it would not have fallen if the state government had been involved better than it was. There is, indeed, a need for adjustments in the manner projects are executed,’ he said.
