By Fr. Pio Anthony Okafor

On Friday, December 30, 2022, the feast of the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph, the Catholic Community of St. John’s Catholic Church, Enugwu Agidi, Njikoka LGA of Anambra State, celebrated 100 years of Catholicism in the town.

During the Holy Mass, the bishop’s secretary, Rev Fr Evaristus Iheanacho, who stood in for the bishop, Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor, reflecting on the Holy Family, challenged the faithful to take time to train their children for a better society.  He singled out the two young boys who took the readings at Mass in Igbo and called on Christians to know that a holy family or a family aspiring to be a holy family should be a family filled with gratitude to God and disposed to accept whatever challenges that might come their way.

Reflecting on the centenary of the Church, he called for sober reflections and calculation of the qualitative growth and development of the lives of the people and growth in the faith.

Highlights of the celebration were the planting of the jubilee tree which was performed by the chief celebrant, Fr. Iheanacho, accompanied by the concelebrating priests, the parish pastoral council representatives and the Jubilee Planning Committee.

There were also various cultural dance displays according to the various zones in the parish. Notable event was the presentation of the structural landscape of the parish designed and built by Mr. Ikechukwu Oguemeka which gives a clear view of all the structures in the parish territory.
