Dunukofia Stakeholders Forum has resolved that whoever wishes to contest for any elective office within Dunukofia Local Government Area can do so pending when a zoning arrangement is put in place.
The resolution was reached at their meeting held at the Local Government Conference Hall at Ukpo.
The resolution was endorsed by the Presidents General of Ukpo, Ifitedunu, Umunachi, Ukwulu, Umudioka, and Nawgu, making up the local government area.
The resolution stipulated that Dunukofia as a constituency had neither legally and enforceable zoning arrangements on elective positions nor appointments in the governance of Anambra State.
It further stated that aspirants from any of the six communities should ask for mandate from their General Assembly Meeting by the year ending to be able to discuss the issue of zoning.
They resolved that after the mandate was obtained, zoning would become binding only when the six communities’ presidents general, traditional rulers or their regents and a political stakeholder appended their signatures on the zoning arrangement.
Reading the resolution to journalists, the Transition Committee Chairman, Dunukofia Local Government Area, and one of those that endorsed the resolution, Hon Uchenna Umerie, emphasized that the development was in the interest of the local government area as it would ensure that only credible and competent individuals represented the local government in the political arena.
The traditional rulers of the six component communities of Dunukofia were present at the occasion.
