Duke of Adigwe’s Family Laid to Rest

…As Family Mourns Colossus

All roads leading to Umuonaga Village, Awka, witnessed guests from far and wide as the late Ichie Lawrence Onyejekwe Adigwe was laid to rest on Friday, March 24, 2023. He was aged 83.

The funeral rites began with a Vigil Mass at his residence, presided over by Rev. Fr. Victor Igwegbe, alongside Rev. Fr. Jude Muokwe. During the homily, Rev. Fr. Mac Ben Okeke the congregation to be prepared as nobody knew when the Messiah would come. He added that the late Adigwe adhered to the scripture and lived an undiluted Christian life.

On the burial day, the body of the deceased was taken from the mortuary to his residence where family, friends and well-wishers paid their last respects before heading to SS John & Paul Parish, Umubele, Agulu Awka, for the burial Mass where the Catholic Bishop of Awka, Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor, was the principal celebrant.

The Mass was followed by the interment of the deceased after which friends and in-laws came to pay their condolences the next day, while a Thanksgiving Mass took place the following day, Sunday.

Speaking to Fides, a friend of the family who did not want his name in print, disclosed that the late Adigwe was a colossus whose house was open to all.  ‘He supported and added to the growth of many youths indeed, and lived a remarkable life,’ he said.

A member of Adigwe family, Mr. Ejike Adigwe, affirmed that the late Adigwe was an embodiment of humanity who left a legacy for the entire Adigwe Family, as well as being a silent giant.

The late Lawrence Adigwe is survived by the wife, seven children and grandchildren.
