On Sunday July 22, 2018, the St Gabriel Group of Schools Ifitedunu had the graduation ceremony of her Nursery and Primary Schools. The event which was also used for fundraising for school projects, held at the St Gabriel Catholic Church Ifitedunu.
The chief celebrant of the graduation Mass, Most Rev Peter Okpaleke, who centered his homily on the theme ‘The Lord, the Good Shepherd’ urged teachers to bring up their pupils in the way of the Lord and treat them as God the good shepherd would guide his flock. He tasked teachers to mould children into admirable members of the society.
The prelate told parents to instill proper discipline in their wards and not pamper them to destruction. He said that corporeal punishment on children when done properly and with the fear of God would aid children to develop well. He however cautioned against abuse. Bishop Okpaleke urged the congregation to support the school projects by donating handsomely towards the school projects, so as to assist the school management to take the school higher.
In his vote of thanks, the school Manager/parish vicar Rev Fr Malachy Mmaduewesi appreciated bishop Okpaleke, the parish priest Rev Fr Clement Onyemelukwe, the priest-in-residence Fr Kizito Agha, the school staff, PTA and pupils (students), donors, parents and the congregation for their support.
Presentation of certificates to graduating pupils, fund raising, dances, entertainment and merriment formed other highlights of the occasion.
