The Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, Senator Uche Ekwunife has called for increased investment in Science and Technology, Research and Development.
She made the call recently while reacting to a motion at the Senate Plenary.
Speaking on the motion seeking to review the national response to the Covid-19 pandemic, Ekwunife noted that investment in science and technology was critical in the fight against the Covid-19 and other related contagious diseases.
She emphasized that Nigeria has the best brains in the Science and Technology sector and expressed optimism that right investment in the sector can bring about products which can aid the nation’s response to the pandemic.
According to Senator Ekwunife, investment into Science, Technology, Innovation and Research sector value chain will reduce the national’s capital flight from medical tourism to other countries and enhance the nation’s ability to respond to both present and future health challenges.
She disclosed belief that the senate will take steps towards providing a conducive environment for the agencies under the Science and Technology Ministry to enhance their contribution to national development as well as enable them fully realize their core mandates.
