… Institutes Health Practitioners Appreciation Day

The Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku, Awka, has organized its maiden Health Practitioners Appreciation Day, amidst joy and commendations.

The event which was held at the hospital’s premises attracted senior management staff of the hospital, government officials, friends and well-wishers, among others.

Speaking during the event, the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Joe Akabuike, said the event was aimed at appreciating staff members of the hospital who had shown commitment and passion to their duties and services to the hospital and the generality of Ndi Anambra.

Dr. Akabuike revealed that the Health Practitioners Appreciation Day was sponsored by an anonymous Anambrarian living in Canada who wanted to appreciate the staff members of the hospital after he visited the hospital sometime early this year and commended the hospital’s staff members for raising their bar of service to patients.

The Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Vincent Okpala, represented by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mr. Linus Nwankwo, said the State Government would keep working tirelessly to ensure that the welfare of health practitioners was taken care of in the state and revealed that the Appreciation Day event would help to spur health workers to do more.

In a paper presentation titled, ”Seeing our patients with the eye of compassion”, Dr. Chy Nwude said that health workers were critical for effective functioning of the health system and hence the need to appreciate their work at all times.

The chairman, Medical Advisory Committee of the hospital, Dr Emmanuel Azike, was among dignitaries that graced the event, while presentation of awards to the recipients added glamour to the event which also had the chairman, Governing Council of the hospital, represented by Professor Paschal Oguno, in attendance.
