Chris Uba, Oduah, Ekwunife, Others Scale INEC Hurdle

Self styled godfather of Anambra politics, Chief Chris Uba, Stella Oduah and Uche Ekwunife are some of the names on the list of candidates published by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in its provisional list of those eligible to contest in the general elections scheduled for next year, reports Ikeugonna Eleke.

Their names and particulars were displayed by INEC at its State Headquarters in Awka.

Others listed include Senator Victor Umeh; Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu; Senator Andy Uba; widow of the late Senator Chuba Okadigbo, Margery among others. They are all vying for the senatorial position on the platforms of PDP, APGA and APC, for the three senatorial zones.

Mr Leo Nkedife, Head Voter Education and Publicity, INEC, said the publication was in compliance with the stipulations of Section 31(3) of the Electoral Act as amended.

He said the list was for those of Presidential, Senatorial and House of Assembly candidates.

‘Today, we formally publish the list of candidates as submitted by the political parties in line with Section 31(3) of the Electoral Act as amended.

‘It stipulates that INEC must publish the particulars of the candidate submitted to INEC within seven days.

‘In compliance with that, we hereby publish the list of candidates submitted to INEC.

‘These names will equally be published in all the constituencies and local government headquarters where elections will hold. What we published is the list of candidates for Presidential and National Assembly candidates,’ he said.

For the senatorial elections the candidates of All Progressives Congress (APC) are Senator Uche Ekwunife (Central), Sen. Andy Uba (South) and Sen. Margery Okadigbo (North).

Those listed for the People’s Democratic (PDP) are Mr Charles Odunukwe (Central), Sen. Stella Oduah (North) and Mr Chukwunedum Ubah (South).

For the All Progressives Grand alliance (APGA), Sen. Victor Umeh (Central), Chief Nicholas Ukachukwu (South) and Chief Chinedu Emeka (North) made the list.
